Incorporating 5 Family Traditions in Modern Weddings

Weddings are a time for reminiscing on all the marriages and love that came before and made yours possible. We love when family traditions are honored and shared between the generations.

For Anna and Michael’s wedding, the family brought in a heritage rug that every couple in the family has gotten married standing on through the years. Some family members have chosen to them their whole wedding around it, Anna chose to stay true to her bright, happy, heart with florals while still showing respect and honor to those who stood there before her.

Leigh Ann and Rob were married at the family’s home where multiple generations had shared their love, family, and continue to gather. Rain didn’t stop the party, love, or ruin the antique floors, but did get every one closer inside for an inside ceremony and made memories they’ll have forever.

Lisa and Thanu honored both families, culture and beliefs by having two ceremonies! This whole weekend was beyond beautiful and reminded everyone how blessed they are also proving love has no barriers.

Leighton and Yates’ followed the southern superstition of burying a bottle of bourbon (or whiskey) exactly one month before the wedding meant to prevent rain and ensure clear, sunny skies for an outdoor ceremony. The ritual involves burying a full, unopened bottle upside down at the wedding venue, then digging it up on the day to share with the wedding party and guests. They also had an outdoor TV so guests could watch the Kentucky Derby, so we believe it worked!

Betsy honored the women who came before by adding their photos to her florals so they were right there with her as she walked down the aisle. What did you do as a special homage to family at your wedding?

We can’t wait for all our 2026 weddings and to see what traditions they cherish!
